Unlike a lot of other headaches that patients must suffer through, a sinus headache does have some potential cures, or at least effective remedies. This isn’t to say they’ll all be instant, cure alls, but there are some approaches sufferers can take to remove or at least lessen the pain.

A sinus headache is characterized by pain that’s induced when the sinus cavities become congested. This can be brought on by colds, allergies or sinusitis. Many of the causes will go away on their own, but some will require medical attention to tackle.

The symptoms of a sinus headache include such things as pain in the forehead and around the eyes and cheeks. Tenderness in the skin and bones under the eyes may also be present. Pain that radiates out from the eyes toward the temples is also a top symptom.

Frequent symptoms beyond the facial pain include blurred vision, pain with movement and even pain in the teeth. Many a sinus headache sufferer has made a dental appointment to tackle the pain only to find out it’s actually caused by the sinuses.

The causes of a sinus headache generally fall in line with swollen or inflamed sinus cavities. Sinuses that are filled up with mucous can also induce the condition.

The best way to treat a true sinus headache is to tackle the underlying problem. If it’s sinusitis, an antibiotic might be prescribed to combat the condition. A cold induced or allergy induced sinus headache will often respond well to treatment of those conditions. Over the counter medications and inhalers often work well, too, in lessening the pain involved in the headache itself.

Some people who suffer from chronic sinus headache symptoms actually don’t have sinus headaches at all. Many headache specialists say that sinus headaches are frequently misdiagnosed. The underlying problem in this case is actually a migraine.

To tell the difference between a sinus headache and a migraine can be quite difficult. This is especially so if there is a visible problem in the sinus system at the time of an attack. Things to watch for, however, include pain that’s stronger or more focused to one side, an extreme sensitivity to light or sound and a throbbing or pulsing pain sensation. If these things are present, the sinus headache might just be a migraine, which isn’t to say the pain is any less appealing.

Dealing with a sinus headache can be a real nightmare. For those who experience severe attacks, the condition can be quite derailing. The best treatment is a good offense. Allergy sufferers who also get these headache should keep their allergies in check when possible. Those with other sinus conditions might want to see the advice of a specialist to bring the underlying condition into check. There is help out there for those who seek it.

The worst part of having a sinus infection is that it is recurring and painful and this can make any sufferer desperate to find a solution. Sinusitis or sinus infection is caused due to sinus inflammation that results in the cavities trapping mucus. There are many treatments available that will help to alleviate the pain caused due to infection in the sinus. Herbal treatment for sinus is often considered to be the best option when seeking an effective treatment.

When you use medications like nasal sprays, inhalers and antibiotics you are prone to negative side effects as a result of repetitive use. Instead people can use a herbal treatment for sinus that will get rid of the infection, and this also limits the chance you will suffer from any side effects. Often, homemade remedies are far more effective than most traditional forms of treatment.

One of the most common herbal remedies for curing sinus infection involves the inhalation of oil extracted from eucalyptus. These herbs have fantastic antiseptic qualities that will speed up the process of inflammation reduction. Apart from inhalation of oil, you can also consume eucalyptus tea to reduce inflammation.

Licorine is also recommended as it strengthens the immune system of the body and helps to protect it from infection causing bacteria. Licorine also helps to reducing inflammation. However, make sure you take those capsules that are designed to strengthen and improve the immune system rather than those that are used to treat ulcers.

Another herbal treatment for sinus is peppermint. This wonderful herb is great for healing, reducing inflammation, and can make it much easier for someone suffering with sinus to breath easier. Peppermint intake can be in the form of a tea or through inhaling the steam generated when peppermint is boiled.

Ginger is known as natures’ painkiller, so it will reduce inflammation as well as the pain associated with this condition. Ginger has been a popular herbal treatment for sinus as well as many other condition that require the need for pain relief.

The antibacterial qualities of lemon balm make it the perfect choice as a herbal treatment for sinus. You can make lemon balm tea, which is made by boiling dried leaves for at least 10 minutes and then straining the mixture. Lemon balm can also be used as a gargle, which is often effective to help clear your throat.

One of the most common causes of sinusitis is the common cold. Therefore, it is important that you take measures to avoid catching a cold. Vitamin C is also thought to be an effective herbal treatment for sinus, as this herb helps to keep the common cold at bay. Vitamin C can either be absorbed from food or taken as capsules.

So if you have a sinus infection then try and choose a herbal treatment for sinus as they are more effective and will provide you with greater relief, than prescription drugs. However, before taking any herbal medication it is best that you consult your doctor.

Sinus infections have a tendency to make us depressed ad usual treatment for it is to use antibiotics in combination with decongestants. However both of these treatments have several side effects, decongestants can often cause headaches and often antibiotic treatments can result in bacteria building immunity to such treatments. Nevertheless, you can also use effective, natural home treatments to cure sinus infections.

Treatments such as essential oils for example have been used for centuries as remedy for all kinds of illnesses. For example Oregano oil is great for curing sinusitis, simply add it to your water or fruit juice two to three times per day and you should feel first signs of relief within a day or two. Or you could also use eucalyptus essential oil and add it to your inhaler or humidifier, not only does it smell great but it will also help you get rid of sinus infection much faster.

Another great essential oil is peppermint essential oil, it’s great for easing sinus congestion which can often lead to infection. Since its very strong mix it with some olive oil and rub it in on your forehead, above eyebrows and around nose, it will open up your nasal passage and allow you to blow your nose clear of mucus, the main cause of infection.

Using salt water to rinse your sinuses every day is another great way to avoid sinus infection, it might be a good idea to buy a so called Neti pot, it’s specifically made for this and you can get really low cost and good ones at Amazon.com. There are also special pre-mixed saline nasal packages for easy use that you can get while shopping Amazon.com

Next is apple cider vinegar, one more excellent natural sinus infection remedy, simply take three to five tea spoons of organic apple cider vinegar per day and you should be able to prevent not only sinusitis but also flu and cold. It will thin down your mucus and you’ll be able to blow it clear more easily, within a day or two you should feel relief and withdrawal of infection symptoms.

Using steam inhaler is another great sinusitis relief method, you can either buy one specifically made for this purpose or simply use a tea pot or just about any pot to emanate steam, it will open your nasal passages within minutes. You can also add a few drops of Eucalyptus, Peppermint or Oregano oil to enhance the effect. This is probably the fastest method to relieve your sinus infection and one of the most effective ones.

Drinking hot lemonade is one more effective natural sinus infection treatment, simply squeeze a few organic lemons ad hot water and honey. This is not only very effective protection from equally sinusitis, flu and cold but it also tastes great, besides being packed with vitamin C lemon also inhibits bacterial and virus growth.

Finally use one of these natural sinus infection remedies or all of them combined, it will certainly help you cure your sinusitis faster, cheaper and more naturally then using antibiotics or another over used medications.

Did you wondered how to treat sinus infection? Did you wondered if there is an effective remedy for sinus problems? A lot of people ask the question as they realize medical treatments bring any side effects which not only may harm you immune system but also weakening your overall condition.

Sinus infection is one of the leading chronic diseases in the United States. According to the National Academy on an Aging Society, it is the most common chronic condition among Americans. It is predicted that over 37 million people suffer from sinusitis and sinusitis-related conditions each year and over 13 million people visit their physician each year due to chronic sinus infection.

Such individuals have an underlying sinus disorder which is exacerbated by episodes of acute infection. In these individuals, we believe that treatment must be more than two weeks and include broad-spectrum antibiotics. Antibiotics are effective only in treating bacterial illnesses. If antibiotics fail to relieve the chronic sinusitis and accompanying headaches, which it often does, endoscopic or image-guided surgery may be the recommended treatment. As antibiotics come with any side effects, the simple solution on how to treat sinus infection is by using a natural antibiotic that is proven to work. The wild oil of oregano and eucalyptus can be used as an effective sinus infection treatment that possesses powerful anti-bacterial properties.

The most common treatment for severe sinuses includes nasal rinses through saltwater solution, topical/oral decongestants, mucolytic agents, antihistamines, and intranasal corticosteroids. If medicines are not enough for curing the infection, then one should go for surgery. One of the best natural way on how to treat sinus infection is by using extract herbs like eucalyptus. You can use eucalyptus or peppermint extract as an inhalant to clear sinus cavities. People with sinus infection may try a cool mist humidifier by adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to provide moisture to the sinuses and promoting healing. It will help to reduce inflammation and open the stuffed passages.

New research on how to treat sinus infection by using eucalyptus herbs found about cineole. Cineole is a highly concentrated extract from the eucalyptus leaf that is confirmed to be very safe and effective remedy to cure sinus infection faster without any side effects or contraindications. Cineole works not only open the sinus doorways, it pushes the mucous out faster, clearing out the pressure and headache faster. If you can get over the taste of Cineole, you will find it one of the most important natural remedy in healing the body.

A key strategy for Principle 1, keep the nose moist while keeping mucus moving, is nasal irrigation. This is a natural remedy I believe every sinus sufferer must understand and should do. In brief, it consists of rinsing out your nose and sinuses with salt and water. I feel so strongly about nasal irrigation that I believe it must be tried first before considering nose or sinus surgery (unless your situation demands it).

Nasal irrigation has become popularized in 2007 by Oprah Winfrey, as she had Dr. Mehmet Oz introduce the neti pot to viewers. Dr. Oz suggests water used for irrigation should be warm and it must include salt; without salt in the mixture that mimics the natural concentration of salt in the body, the water would irritate delicate nasal membranes. He also points out how many ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists recognize the value in doing irrigation, which can be more effective than drugs for treating nasal congestion, stuffiness, or allergies, for example, as it involves directly cleaning out the nose and sinuses. Have you noticed the proliferation of irrigation products in your local drugstore compared to even just 10 years ago? The number of products has increased significantly, because there is much value in cleaning out your nose with salt water. I wish nasal irrigation would be tantamount to and as well understood as washing dirty hands!

The doctor who pioneered the concept of nasal irrigation in the United States is Dr. Murray Grossan, of Los Angeles, an innovative ENT specialist who created the Grossan Hydro Pulse Nasal-Sinus Irrigation System, which has reportedly sold 400,000 to date. Interestingly, based on feedback, Dr. Grossan estimates 10%, or 40,000, of these purchasers are from empty nose sufferers. You can visit his website at http://www.hydromedonline.com to learn more about the Hydro Pulse. Dr. Grossan needed to find an effective remedy for treating his patients, many of whom did not have much money, without using drugs. I use the Hydro Pulse twice a day, in the morning and evening. It is important to point out the Hydro Pulse has distinct advantages over other irrigation products, such as a neti pot or a bulb syringe (the latter of which can house bacteria):

1) The Hydro Pulse pulsates at a rate to stimulate your nasal cilia to their best rhythm, restoring the functioning of the cilia.

2) The Hydro Pulse allows you to irrigate both your nose and throat. It is important to irrigate both, particularly since what is in the nose travels down to the throat. Irrigating the throat can bring circulation to the throat, thereby thinning mucus and reducing postnasal drip.

Another key strategy as part of Principle 1 and that I believe everyone should keep in mind before considering nasal or sinus surgery, except in emergency situations, is to get proper treatment for your allergies. Allergies can lead to enlarged turbinate tissue that can block nasal breathing, so effective treatment for allergies can actually reduce the size of the turbinates, an effect that can be very beneficial. (Please note: the turbinates are very complex structures in the nose with the primary turbinates the size of a finger and they play key roles in heating, humidifying, and filtering air, directing and detecting airflow, and providing 50% of resistance in overall airflow to the lungs.) This treatment might consist of allergy medicine and injections. Allergy injections, for example, have been demonstrated in medical literature to improve the immune system and mucociliary clearance functioning. These are generally administered for 3-5 years for optimal benefit.

A third key strategy of Principle 1 is proper diet. This strategy might seem self-explanatory, but it cannot be emphasized enough. A number of tips to consider in terms of diet including drinking 8, 8-ounce glasses of water per day; drinking hot tea with lemon and honey, particularly during a time of a cold or sinus infection; eating chicken soup; and eating foods that might be beneficial for sinus health such as vegetables, fresh fruits, spicy foods, wheat products, and foods high in protein. Conversely, foods to avoid include caffeinated products and alcohol, which increase nasal dryness, and tobacco smoke, which worsens the lungs and consequently leads to more breathing difficulties.

Principle 2 is maintain good blood supply to the nose. Exercise is a strategy that most people are familiar with and can help improve nasal functioning. Exercise increases blood flow throughout the body, while increasing serotonin reuptake inhibitors that will physically decrease the likelihood someone will develop depression. When I run outside (or walk or do any physical activity), I notice that I can breathe better through my nose. Empty nose sufferers tend to particularly benefit from good blood supply to their nose, sometimes finding inversion techniques to be helpful. An inversion technique consists of having the head lower than the rest of the body to increase blood supply to the head and remaining nose tissue (the turbinates). You can purchase an inversion table to do this technique.

Principle 3 is relax, be it a good night of sleep or reducing stress in everyday life. It is important to get adequate sleep per night, which is the body’s natural way of healing. People who are not getting enough sleep are more apt to come down with sinus infections. I recall reading Walt Ballenberger, founder of http://www.postnasaldrip.net informing his readers that after 2.5 years, he came down with a sinus infection. The reason? He had 3 hours of sleep in a 48 hour period. However, sufferers of empty nose syndrome might need to undergo a sleep study and might even need a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine because their breathing difficulties make breathing (and consequently sleeping) that much more difficult. Some of the more severely affected empty nose patients report only being able to breathe for a few hours at a time each night. Finally, reducing stress is also important for sinus sufferers as that alone can reduce the risk of sinus infections.

If you are among the 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, acid reflux, asthma, and/or if you have empty nose syndrome, then I encourage you to consider using the treatment strategies discussed in this article, which might just be a starting point for you to take control of your nasal health. Remember, it is you, no one else, who will take control of your health.

You may find it hard to believe that 37 million Americans suffer with sinus infections each year and it is more prevalent today than it was in the pre-antibiotic age! But that is not to say that antibiotics are not effective in treating it. In fact when sinusitis occurs the use of antibiotics to kill the infectious bacteria is the best way. In this way we look at infection sinus treatment to help alleviate the symptoms related to sinus infections.

One of the best infection sinus treatment tips is to take a decongestant. Also the use of oral or topical steroids for combating sinus inflammation as well as antihistamines for those where underlying allergies are involved are other forms of treatment for sinus infection.

However more and more doctors are coming to realise that the best to successfully fight off a sinus infection is to prevent it from recurring and unfortunately medication alone can not help to do this. A person will need to ensure that their mucous membrane lining of their nasal and sinus passages are healthy and functioning correctly. Below are some natural treatments which will help to keep your cilia healthy and functioning which will prevent mucus from building up in your sinuses. If a sinus infection does occur then these same treatments will increase the effectiveness of any antibiotics or medications that are prescribed to speed up the healing process and thus making a recurrence of the infection less likely in the future.

1. Drink Hot Liquids This is one of the best ways for you to unclog your sinuses is by drinking hot tea either black, green, herbal or decaffeinated (it really does not matter which one you drink). Or you could have hot chicken soup throughout the day instead. But it is important that you drink enough to ensure that your urine is light in colour. These hot liquids will help to moisturize your mucous membrane and help to speed up the movement of your cilia which will then was mucus out of your sinuses more quickly.

2. Apply a warm compress to your face three times a day for 5 minutes. What you need to do is soak a small towel in warm water and then place it over your face below and between your eyes as this will help increase the circulation in your sinuses and so will help speed up the movement of your cilia. This is a popular home remedy for nasal congestion.

3. Irrigate the sinuses. For 3,000 years yoga practitioners have been keeping their sinuses healthy by sniffing a saltwater solution rapidly in and out of their nose at low pressure. However you should not use this method unless you have been taught how to do it correctly. This has been a great home remedy for nasal congestion for thousands of years.

Victims of chronic Sinus Congestion may have the following symptoms for 12 weeks or more: facial pain/pressure, facial congestion/fullness, nasal obstruction/blockage, thick nasal discharge/discolored post-nasal drainage, pus in the nasal cavity, and at times, fever. They may also have headache, bad breath, and fatigue. Typically this condition is the result of several causes combined. While you can’t necessarily eliminate the causes, you can be proactive about natural sinus relief solutions and take a few preventative measures that will decrease the occurrence of sinus congestion.

However, allergies can cause sinus congestion, which can lead to headache pain. If you have allergies, the treatment for your allergy will not relieve your headache pain. Some sinus congestion is caused by food allergies. Milk and wheat are both common sinus offenders that cause allergic reactions and boost mucus production. Generally, a sinusitis condition causes nasal congestion and facial pain and pressure, will last more than ten days, and could also cause a thick yellow green mucus discharge, requiring sinus infection treatment.

Many people seek natural sinus relief because they react poorly to the ingredients in decongestant and antihistamine medications. Why? Because usually decongestant nasal sprays should only be used for short periods of time, or they can make congestion worse. Using decongestants when you have an upper respiratory infection may reduce your risk of developing sinusitis.

Antihistamines can be effective for treatment of allergy but when it comes to sinus drainage, the medication actually thicken the mucus, hampering sinus drainage and could lead to an infection.

Sinus congestion is harmful but if you take care of it in a proper manner you can easily get rid of it. One of the simple natural sinus relief without any side effects that you can do at home is using a steam inhalation. You should inhale steam vapors periodically. It is very helpful to steep some eucalyptus in a large pot of boiling water and use as an inhalant to unblock nasal passages. Add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil at the bottom of a large bowl and carefully fill it with steaming hot water at least three to four times a day for 2-3 minutes. Quickly put a towel over your head and carefully lean over the bowl to breathe in the vapors.

There are numerous reasons why you should combine steam inhalation and eucalyptus ingredients to treat sinus problems naturally. Eucalyptus essential oil is probably the most effective of all sinus infection remedies. Researchers also discovered the highly concentrated extract of eucalyptus called Cineole is a powerful antiseptic properties. This convenient remedy will break up mucus congestion and improve drainage, thus eliminating the block and relieving pressure. This will also soothe inflammation, which will ease sinus pain and provide effective natural sinus relief.

Chronic Sinusitis is described as inflammation in the mucus membrane that lasts more than 12 weeks. Usually caused by viral or bacterial infection, but it may sometimes be caused by other factors as well, like for example fungal infection. There have been so many advertised chronic sinusitis treatments on the market that it’s hard to distinguish which chronic sinusitis treatments work best. Here are a few examples of sinusitis treatments that work.

1. Decongestants – decongestants are widely used to combat this chronic condition because it helps to drain extra mucus from the nose. These can be found at any drugstore and can be bought over the counter.

2. Over the counter Nasal Sprays – nasal sprays are usually decongestants in liquid form. This helps rinse out your nasal passages and ensures that bacteria, viruses, or fungus do not thrive in that environment.

3. Antihistamines – these don’t necessarily cure sinusitis. Antihistamines work by suppressing the inflammation caused by the histamines, promoting air flow.

4. Humidifiers – one of the effects of sinusitis is to dry out the sinus membranes, causing it to be more sensitive to irritants. Using a humidifier can provide relief.

5. Nasal corticosteroids – these nasal sprays also assist in preventing inflammation.

6. Oral or injected corticosteroids – these are used to relieve inflammation of very severe sinusitis. These may cause side effects, so be sure to only use it to treat very serious cases.

7. Antibiotics – antibiotics are mainly used as a chronic sinusitis treatment for bacterial infection. An example of this would be amoxicillin. This is effective treatment for chronic sinusitis as long as it is taken in moderation. Always make sure to finish the whole cycle, even if your symptoms get better. Stopping could lead to the return of bacterial infection.

Of course, the most effective chronic sinusitis treatment is prevention of the disease itself. This can be accomplished by following some of the examples given below.

1. Reduce exposure to known allergens. Avoid exposing yourself to places or things that you know will induce a cold or irritate your nasal cavities.

2. Reduce the chances of viral, bacterial, or fungal infection by disinfecting the house often. Opening windows and improving the ventilation may also help.

3. Sleep with your head elevated, as this helps with the draining of mucus.

4. Avoid anything that irritates the nose. The more irritated it is, the more likely you will develop sinusitis.

5. Boost your immune system by taking vitamins. Studies have shown that people who drink Vitamin C are a lot less susceptible to chronic sinusitis than the people who do not ingest the vitamin.

6. Get plenty of rest. This also helps your body fight off infection, thus eliminating the need for chronic sinusitis treatments.

7. Drink plenty of fluids to keep your mucus membrane hydrated.

These are just some examples of chronic sinusitis treatments. To find out what’s best for you, always consult a licensed medical practitioner.

Sinus infections are one of the most common infections across the world. Sinus attacks are caused by an infection in the sinuses or cavities that are present in the bones near the nose. When there is any swelling in these sinuses because of some infection, breathing becomes difficult, resulting in fever, headaches, and other discomforts. This is known as sinusitis.

Each sinus or cavity in the skull has an opening that allows free exchange of mucus and air. Each sinus is joined to the other by a mucous membrane lining. When there is an infection like hay fever or a disease like asthma, these sinuses and the lining become inflamed, causing air and mucus to be blocked inside or a vacuum to be created. This can cause pressure on the sinus walls, causing severe pain. Millions of dollars are spent for sinus medications and sinus research.

Sinus infections can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Sometimes, the infection may also lead to some brain infections or other chronic problems. Though there is no effective remedy for sinus infections, a lot of comfort can be gained by treating the sinus symptoms like headaches, nasal discharge, nasal blocking, runny nose, ear/neck/cheek/jaw pain, swelling of eyelids, etc. However, acute or chronic sinus infections require prolonged treatments, comprised of antibiotics or therapies like saline nasal rinses, topical/oral decongestants, antihistamines, mucolytic agents, and intranasal corticosteroids.

Sinus infections can also be treated by some home remedies. A lot of relief can be obtained by inhaling steam from a vaporizer or a bowl of hot water. Applying a hot or a cold compress over the inflamed area would also provide relief. A decoction of mustard seed powder and water, instilled in the nostrils; eating jalapeno peppers; drinking juice of ripe grapes; applying a paste of cinnamon and water on the forehead; applying paste of ginger and water/milk on the forehead; applying paste of basil leaves, cloves, and dried ginger on the forehead; inhaling steam of eucalyptus oil; and drinking warm tea are all found to be effective in providing some relief. Drinking a lot of water and other fluids would also help. A great deal of rest is also required. However, it is better to consult a specialist if the infection persists.
